The SleepOut™ Experience
Anticipation. Nerves. Expectations.
All these things went through my head as the Redhill School SleepOut™ approached. I wondered if I was going to forget all my training or if maybe people would decide not to come anymore. Funny thing is, I worried for nothing.
I remembered every single thing I was taught at the School Sleepout™ Ambassadors Boot Camp and there were way more people at the SleepOut™ than I expected.
It was an experience that I will never ever forget. Being the Ambassador for the SleepOut™ Brand made it all the more special for me. Working with Anna the whole night, recording people making toys for underprivileged children and them speaking about the importance of Madiba was amazing. Surprisingly I didn’t sleep at all and rather kept myself busy making peanut butter and jam sandwiches for people to take home and give to a homeless person they drive past.
We had a few people from the Tomorrow Trust come over and engage the participants in a really great discussions about the SleepOut™ and where the care packages they brought are going and as mentioned earlier what Madiba meant to them.
Overall, it was one of the best moments of my life. Seeing everyone enjoy themselves and people coming up to me and Anna and congratulating us on a job well done (even the former Ambassador said we did a way better job than he did!). It was a night to remember for me, for Anna and for everyone who was there: the students and the teachers.
I can without a doubt say that my SleepOut™ experience was absolutely brilliant and made even more brilliant by the fact that I was an Ambassador. It was an event that will be burned in the memories of everyone there forever.
